Edwin (Tex) Wiebe Biography
Edwin (Tex) Wiebe is a self taught contemporary artist`s who`s passion for nature is detailed vividly through multimedia art. From alpine British Columbia and plains of Alberta to the Coast of Mexico, Edwin paints from mixture of memory, and photo reference. Detailed without exception, his paintings are a reflection of himself and his life.
Born September 22, 1942, Edwin grew up in Coaldale, Alberta where he received his education. Gifted with artistic talents, Edwin`s ability was recognized at an early age. Edwin developed his passion with oil in his junior years, selling to family, friends and acquaintances.
After marrying Louise Neufeld in 1963, he applied his creativity to being a graphic artist, and his fine art career was put on hold. Picking up the brushes in 1990, he decided to outlet his talents in watercolors. Today his paintings are created at his summer retreat, deep in the Rockies of British Columbia, as well as his winter home in the prairies of Alberta and the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
Always motivated by the outdoors, he paints panoramic prairie scenes featuring rural and small town Alberta. Many paintings are created from childhood experiences and memories. The grain elevator in the distance while toiling in the sweltering beet and bean fields, or trudging to school after a prairie blizzard. Mountain vistas are inspired by many miles on foot through mist and meadow, rivers and rain. His usual vivid memories are related in the beauty of his painting, as it wasn`t a photo that gave him his inspiration, he was there.
In 2009, Edwin was inducted into the Palliser Wall of Fame which celebrates former students of Palliser Regional Schools who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field.
